I am remodeling my bathroom and I want to make it look beach but I dont know how to do this. I dont want to paint anything blue, I already have a lot of blue in my house. I am tiling up the wall about a third of the way, so I need to know what color to put on the wall above it, and maybe what I can put in the bathroom, any decorating ideas would help.
Havanadig, I know the beach I go to is nothing like yours, sounds like you need to find a new beach.

Well it would depend on the color of the tiles you put on the wall. But for the wall a nice subtle sandy color or a light sea green. Be careful when you pick out the sea green! You don’t want your walls to look lime. And you could buy little figurines and stuff.
starfish decorations
You could go with a pale, sandy beige color for the walls, and dried seagrass mats are very cheap and give a tropical kind of look. They can go on the floor or even be used as a wall covering. You could drape a large fishing net in a corner and add seashells….those are ideas off the top of my head, but I’m sure you’ll come up with some great ideas as you go.
Maybe a sandy colour on the walls and some shells dotted about and a palm or two depending on how big the room is.
What I did was just above the tiles I panted light coloured shells on the wall. For decorations. get some shells and plants.
You can star by painting the door with navy blue, and make some waves and the waves can continue on the wall.Around the mirror you can stick some shells and sand.If you wont you can by some rope and decorate the corners.
I would use sand in vases. Michaels and other craft stores carry unique but beautiful glass containers. Have fun with different colors of sand, creating a colorful display. Top them off with shells, pebbles, figurines, even some silk flowers. Have you thought about painting a scene of the beach above your tile? This would be beautiful, ask around you may be surprised who you know that could paint this for you, perhaps you could try, nothing lost if you don’t like it. Hope this helps.
throw some sand on the floor
I’ve seen some really cute bathrooms done with a whitewashed technique of painting. HGTV has done a few episodes on this. You pick a color (blue or sea green??) but then you add a glaze to it. This really softens the color, making it very subtle. Then use a big sponge to apply it to the walls. Check out HGTV and DIY Network for instructions and examples.
put sand on the floor
Be careful with those blue and green colors in the bathroom, makes you look sickly in the morning. What about a great sunset, on that wall, orange and yellows. For accessories, Oriental Trading Company catalog, available on line, has all the kitchy beach trinkets you would ever need. Skip the sand.
Check out a store called Linens and Things. They have many towels and accesories to go in a beach themed room. My brother used a nautical theme in his bathroom, and painted a port hole on the door, framed with a thick braided rope. You could find a nice beach print and make the frame look weathered, or use use small shadow boxes with shells in them. Remember if you find something you like, but it’s not the color you want, you can repaint it with acrylic craft paint.
I believe I had a beach themed bathroom before but that doesn’t matter. You should get some shower curtains that have shells or starfish.
The walls should start at the bottom a sandy color for the sand, then it should lead to the beach water, and last head to the sky at the top of the wall. It should end up sort of looking like a painting but on the walls.
It might also be good if you find a tooth brush holder with shells on it or has been colored a nice beachy tone.
I hope your bathroom turns out great!!!
Boy, these were some good suggestions submitted. My first thought was similiar to Simon and Larry, throw some sand on the floor,,but that was being a bit sarcastic,….although sounded pretty basic, if you like sand colored tile, use a variety of different sand colors, then a light blue green baseboard,,,,the shower curtain with shell design is excellent suggestion too. But keep your colors light and soft. Whites tend to glare, which makes the bathroom look pretty antiseptic. Sincerely
